This book is the authorized chronicle of the Atlanta Rhythm Section, the legendary southern rock band that created such memorable hits as “Champagne Jam,” “So Into You,” “Imaginary Lover,” “Spooky,” and “Doraville.” Already seasoned studio professionals when they formed in 1970, the A.R.S. forged a new direction in southern rock by focusing on the integrity of their music onstage and in the studio. Through platinum and gold albums—A Rock and Roll Alternative, Champagne Jam, and Underdog—as well as international tours, huge outdoor concerts, and personnel changes, the band has staunchly maintained its dedication to its craft over the decades. This story contains recollections from original and current band members, producers, technicians, other musicians, and fans, as well as more than 120 photos of band members from the early days as backup musicians for Roy Orbison and other iconic artists to the present day.

This book is so detailed, yet the writing style is not boring or over- factual. Any ARS fan will love this page-turner.

As a long time fan of the band, this book shines a spotlight on an under rated band. The author provides quotes from a variety of friends, family, associates and fellow musicians. I found this to be enlightening as members of Kansas, the Kentucky Headhunters, Tinsley Ellis & Lynyrd Skynyrd all pay their respects to the band. It’s obvious that the band was held in high regard by their peers. The author does a thorough job of covering the lengthy history and, for me, the level of detail at approximately 250 pages is just right. In addition, I’ve recently read two books with frequent typos and grammatical errors, in this work I only noted a couple of these issues so kudos to the author and editors for getting this out in excellent fashion.

The author, Willie Moseley, has given us a true and complete history of one of the most talented and productive bands, both good and bad, in the rock genre. From pre-ARS years and experiences to the band's later, less productive times,
Mr. Moseley tells us where and how they began and elaborates on ARS' growth and success over a 40 year period. Though I never saw them perform, one gets a great picture of what went into their performances and their personalities over their active years. I personally have many of their releases on vinyl, which reflects somewhat on how long I have been one of their fans. Through this book, I have also picked up on later releases on cd that I was not familiar with, broadening my appreciation of this great band. In particular, though I am not necessarily reviewing their releases, the disc "Eufaula" is one that came out in later years that reflects some of their best work, though I have seen reviews suggesting the opposite (with which I disagree). Without mention and detail in this book, I would not have known of this particular cd. It is obvious that Mr. Moseley has spent a great deal of time both researching and witnessing ARS, and this book is a must-have for anyone who has followed what some have called a southern rock band, though their music reaches much farther than the south. I highly recommend it especially for ARS fans, young and old!

Loved all the background stories leading up to the creation of the band and the inside info of the ARS on the road and in the studio! One of my favorite bands, and guitar players (Barry Bailey).

If you are a fan of the A.R.S., this book is a must read. I was fortunate to see the band twice back in the day when "A Rock & Roll Alternative" came out. (They opened for Styx.) A couple years later, they came back on the "Champagne Jam" tour where they headlined. (Heartsfield was the opening band where they cut their set short after 3 songs because one of the band members had a snit about something & stalked offstage. They got booed.) A.R.S. came out & rocked hard & LOUD! My ears rang for 2 days...totally worth it! Paul Goddard's bass solo on "Another Man's Woman" was jaw dropping. These guys were all about the music. Not flashy lights, flashy clothes or animated antics onstage. The music they created still holds up very well to this day, compared to the junk that comes out now, in my opinion. Somewhere up in the heavens, Ronnie, Paul, Robert & J.R. (who sadly passed away a few months ago) are still "Playing That Georgia Rhythm." And to Dean & Rodney, the remaining original members of the band, keep rockin' gentlemen.

First off - I've been an ARS fan for over 40 years so most of the names are familiar to me. It was great to hear the stories from those who were there (or those close to them). It's sad to know that so many of the classic ARS members have passed away but this book contributes greatly to their legacy.

Great to finally get a book about one of my favorite groups, ARS! But unfortunately, I have to dock it a star. The author did a great job going behind the scenes to give us the background of the band and ALMOST all the details. But (sorry to say because I really enjoyed the book overall) some of the latter, 80s era members are only referred to briefly in passing, while others are not even mentioned at all. All in all, I recommend the book.....But go to their Wikipedia page (most of which I wrote) to get the missing info.

Having had the opportunity to know the members of ARS and to also have had the good fortune to see them work in the studio and to tour with them on occasion, I can honestly say that on many counts I owe them a lot for influencing me as a player and thus contributing to my success. I always enjoy reading a book that teaches me something that I wasn’t previously aware of. Just when i thought I knew it all, Willie Moseley digs deep and paints an accurate picture of the beginnings of a great band, and along with Buddy Buie and Rodney Mills, created a music legacy that put smiles on our faces and gave us all a heaping plate of good ol’ Georgia Rhythm.

A must for ARS fans!! About the only criticism I have is that in a few instances the author's use of grammar & punctuation was a little bit awkward. But...... That's splitting hairs & is essentially a non-issue.

Very informative, I loved this band. Started to lose interest once the book progressed to the "new" members. Bands are never the same once the original members leave. Zeppelin kind of got it right when they disbanded after Bonham's death.
